Why do I wear it?
You did not yet ask that question, but I have the feeling you might.
I wear it because I have to wear it.
Because a co-worker brought it back from Cozumel for my birthday and then his desk got put right next to mine so I wear it all day, every day now.
I wear it because I am fearful of that moment when my colleague turns to me and asks:
"How is that Tiger Eye treating you?"
And it does not end there.
Everyone else has been asking me about it since the moment I stretched the elastic around my wrist ( tangling my arm hair in a very painful way).
Team members, partners, interdepartmental colleagues with all kinds of questions:
What is that? (with a giggle)
Nice... bracelet? (with a smirk)
Where did you get your trinket? (with a sign of disinterest)
And I'm required to provide an answer of some sort.
But I am not required to tell the truth.
I make up things on the spot that I am actually somewhat proud of.
For example:
The vermeil beads lift the sacred spirits of my limbs
(said beside the microwave in the staff kitchen)
The Tiger Eye is a stabalizing force of wisdom for my ego
(spoken at the urinals)
The moonstone contributes to holistic, earthly conservation
(grunted as I forced more cardboard into the packed recycling bin)
It seems as though my new spiritual, somewhat clairvoyant presence has taken on a life of its own with my statements surprising me at times.
My friend, the lava creates a pulse to counteract the bad vibes coming from the broken printer
Sweet soul, the essential oils ground me when I can't share my screen on Zoom
Fellow comrade, the gas bubbles bring a tranquil aroma to combat the reheated salmon in the kitchen
Why do I wear it?
Because every office needs a Shaman and you never know when that Shaman might be you.
